English

This week, students are learning about the parts of a story. They are learning about characters (mein? who is in the story?), setting (wein? where does the story happen?), plot (shu? what happens in the story?), problem (mushukula?) and resolution (haleit?).  They will analyze some stories in class, and then write some stories of their own!

Math

Students are learning how to record and represent data. They are learning how to use tally marks and pictographs.

Science

Flying animals are the topic of this weeks science lesson. Watch for a test on "How animals adapt" at the end of the week. Check to see that your child does the review on page 96 in the science workbook.

April 15-19

We hope to see many of you at the parent-teacher night on April 25.
Our year end is not far away, but our students are still learning so much. We would like to show you  some websites where students can learn at home, and practice the skills they have studied at school. Students who use educational games are able to use their knowledge in a fun, relaxed setting, and they often are presented with problem-solving challenges. We hope your student enjoys the games and videos as he learns.

English

This week, we are reading a book about animal eyes. The students are learning how to find specific details in the books, and write about them using sentences they construct on their own. They are writing reports in class about animals from the book.

Your student can practice reading on www.starfall.com.

This website has stories for different levels of readers, from begining readers to more advanced students. Let your student try several different levels, and have fun as he learns.

Math

Our students are learning how to read clocks, after learning about calendars last week. They are learning how to read both digital and analogue clocks on the hour and the half-hour. There are some games they can use to practice their time reading skills at http://sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm#time.

Third graders can practice their addition and subtraction skills on many of the games at http://www.fun4thebrain.com/addition.html.

Science

In science, the 3rd graders are finding out more about how animals move. We are discussing how animals use their bodies to swim and to walk.
